Dear Friends of TAAM,
Today, we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of a milestone in Turkish history. On April 23, 1920, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk opened the first parliament based on the principle “Sovereignty Unconditionally Belongs to the People”. This was a seismic shift in the Turkish history, starting the transfer of power from a sultan to the people, and the establishment of a secular Republic to replace the Ottoman Empire.
Hence April 23 is celebrated as the National Sovereignty Day. In 1924, Atatürk with remarkable foresight, dedicated this day to the children, acknowledging that we have to raise, protect and educate our children well, as they are our future.
That is why as we celebrate the National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, we share with you a video showing what our children have been doing at TAAM’s Turkish Cultural School. Enjoy!
Wishing our children a bright future,
