Meet the Teachers and the School Administration:
School Director /Teacher
I graduated from Bilkent University, Ankara Turkey with a BA in Banking & Finance in 1997. The same year I moved to United States to further my education. I graduated from Bradley University, Illinois-USA with a MBA degree in 2000. After moving to Minnesota, I attended Carlson School of Management focusing on Accounting and Auditing. I have been working in the Financial Services industry for over 15 years now.
In 2004 with my husband Trent Riggs I moved to Minnesota and have been active in the Turkish American Community of Minnesota ever since. I have held the Treasurer and Vice President roles within the TAAM Board of Directors in the past and I am the Vice President of the Current TAAM Board of Directors.
I have a 5 years old daughter Leyla and teaching her new things and exploring the world with her is my deepest passion. I have worked as a private instructor during my collage years teaching Economics to freshman students. I have also worked as a professor of Business Administration at Robert Morris College since moving to United States.
I love kids of all ages and teaching. I am also very passionate about providing a sense of community and an understanding of their Turkish heritage and culture for our children. That is why I have dedicated myself to researching and conducting a feasibility analysis for starting a Turkish Language and Culture School in Minnesota for the better part of 2012. After I developed the business plan which entailed identification of school management and teaching personnel, location, grant possibilities, cost and tuition analysis, essential teaching tools, etc., I have made the proposal to the TAAM Board of Management in February to start a Turkish Language and Culture School under TAAM. I am happy to say that the proposal was unanimously approved and our Teachers and School Management started to work diligently on acquiring the tools necessary and developing lesson plans in order to hold an 8 week spring session. Our hard work paid off and we were able to l start the classes in mid-March 2013. The Spring Session was a great learning experience for all of us, teachers and students alike. During the summer the School Management and our Teachers will be using the takeaways from the Spring Session to prepare for the 2013- 2014 school year by building lesson plans, developing custom teaching tools and acquiring materials to further enrich our curriculum.
I would like to thank our Students, Parents, Teachers, Volunteers and Sponsors for coming together to make this dream a reality. Looking forward to see my students in the class room again this September.
I am Teslime Davies, married with Steve Davies and have two boys. Nathan who is 9 year old and Kyle who is almost 5 years old.
After moving to the US from Mersin, I have been living here for almost 14 years, the last 11 in Minnesota. My academic background is that I studied accounting and worked for 8 years in Turkey. After I came to America I wanted to study Child Psychology and I went to University of Minnesota. I haven’t graduated yet, just waiting for my little ones to get older and I am very excited to go back to finish my degree soon.
I am a volunteer teaching the kids Turkish language in Turkish school. My hope is that our kids will be able communicate comfortably when we visit Turkey especially with older relatives who don’t speak English and also with kids their own age.
