School of Turkish Language and Culture


This is a pilot educational program organized by TAAM.  The school aims to foster the Turkish identity within the young generation of Turkish Americans by providing them a sense of community and belonging as well as by providing them help with language skills in Turkish, instructions on Turkish Geography, History, Culture, Literature, Music and Folk Dances.  Two adults will spend time with the children each week.

The school will be accepting students between 5 – 12 years of age. Teenagers are welcome and encouraged to participate as volunteers.

School Days:  Following Sundays 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Each week will have the following structure:


Each weekly session will have a theme (not necessarily in the following order):

  • Theme: Orientation
  1. Exchange of Communication Info
  2. Health Info: Waivers
  • Theme: Turkish Music
  1. Live Music (Local Turkish Musicians introducing Turkish music, rhythms, instruments)
  2. Turkish Music for Children (Lullabies, Children songs)
  • Theme: Turkish Folk Dances
  1. TAAM Folk Dancers will teach and practice dances with the children
  • Theme: Children Games
  1. We will explore the games we used to play when we were kids
  • Theme: Hand Crafting
  1. Handprints
  2. Drawing and coloring the Turkish Flag
  • Theme: Cooking
  1. Fruit salad – teaching fruit names in Turkish
  2. Fruit kabobs
  3. Making sandwiches
  4. Making kurabiye (cookie) from play dough


Weekly plans/themes are subject to change based on the availability of instructors/volunteers.

School Tuition Payments

Fee:    $20/child (per week)

            $90/child (6-week program)
